(540) 230-1098How Professional Tree Removal is Different from Cutting a Tree Yourself?
Tree removal is the complete extraction of a tree that includes trunk and limbs from your property. Professional removal involves rigging, sectional disassembly, ground crew coordination, crane work as needed, full chip-and-haul cleanup, and optional stump grinding to below grade.
At All Natural Tree Experts, our certified arborists commonly remove trees that have been structurally compromised by ice storms or summer thunderstorms, trees that have been killed or severely weakened by disease and pest pressure, trees that are too close to a home or structure, and trees that have simply reached the end of their natural lifespan. Each situation is assessed on-site by a certified arborist before any recommendation is made.
A good arborist will evaluate first whether a tree can be saved through pruning, cabling, or treatment before recommending removal, and that’s what we do. But there are situations where removal is the only safe, practical, or economically sound option.
Not sure whether your tree can be saved or needs removal? Call now to schedule our visit and get an honest recommendation from an ISA-certified arborist.

Common Tree Removal Situations We Experienced in Radford
After a decade of experience in the tree care industry and working in Radford and the New River Valley, we see some common tree species and site situations come up regularly. Here are some of the most common situations we encounter:
- Oak wilt kills red oaks rapidly, sometimes within a single season, and spreads through connected root systems.
- Tulip poplars, common along the New River corridor, but their brittle wood makes them one of the most common hazard trees on residential properties.
- Call for removals in the weeks following major ice storms, particularly from pines that are structurally vulnerable to ice loading.
- Root systems compromised by erosion or shallow soil over rock in hillside properties. These lean toward structures over time and require proactive assessment and often removal.
- Radford pears were widely planted in Radford subdivisions but are now considered an invasive species in Virginia. Removal and replacement with a native species is strongly recommended.
No worries, even if the situation your trees are facing is different from the common ones, you can count on us for any possible tree problem.

When Does a Tree Need to Be Removed?
If your tree is diseased or infected, removing it isn’t always the last resort. But these are the situations where removal is the only option, and leaving the tree in place creates a growing risk to people and property.
- The tree is dead or dying. It has no living tissue holding branches together.
- Severe structural failure where any treatment or bracing is no longer a reliable long-term solution.
- The storm caused damage beyond recovery, resulting in canopy loss or compromised structural integrity of the trunk.
- A large tree growing within 10 to 15 feet of a foundation, roof, or utility line and can’t be reduced to a safe size.
- Some diseases, like oak wilt or advanced Armillaria root rot, progress to a point where the tree cannot be saved.
- Site clearance for renovation or new construction, or driveway or pool installation.
If your tree shows any of these warning signs, schedule our professional tree removal in Radford and get it removed before it falls.
Is Stump Removal a Part of Tree Removal?
Tree removal and stump removal are separate services. When a tree is removed, the trunk is cut as close to the ground as safely possible, leaving a stump that is flush with or slightly above grade. This may be sufficient if the area will remain landscaped or mulched.
If you plan to replant grass, install sod, pave, build, or improve the appearance of the area, stump grinding is the recommended next step. Our grinder reduces the stump and the top 6 to 12 inches of root flare to wood chips below the soil surface. The mulch can be left to decompose naturally over 2 to 3 seasons or hauled away. While stump grinding does not remove the entire root system, it prevents regrowth and makes the space usable.
Leaving a stump in place can also create a source of Armillaria root rot, which may spread to nearby trees, making stump grinding a valuable protective measure.
Want to use the space after tree removal? Ask us for stump grinding to make your property usable for construction or new plant growth.
